Dr. Irene Ma
Dr. Irene Ma is a hematologist and medical oncologist at the MacNeal Center for Cancer Care. She treats solid tumors, leukemia and lymphomas, as well as benign blood conditions. Dr. Ma obtained her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at New York University. Dr. Ma then returned home to complete a fellowship in hematology and oncology at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where she served as chief fellow.
Dr. Ma believes in providing the highest quality and compassionate cancer care to her patients while following evidence-based guidelines. She feels the most important qualities a physician should possess are knowledge and empathy. She enjoys working with patients and their families to come up with the best treatment for each individual patient. Her goals are to offer patients a cure when possible, comfort when not, and quality of life always.
Dr. Ma is board certified in hematology and medical oncology. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the section of hematology/oncology at UIC. She lives in Hinsdale, Illinois, with her husband and two young children.
Dr. John Berry
Dr. John Berry specializes in the medical (nonsurgical) treatment of cancer. He has been a member of MacNeal’s medical staff since 1999, serving as chairman of the Department of Hematology and Oncology since 2004. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.
Born in Yorkshire, England, but raised in New Zealand, Dr. Berry brings an international perspective to his practice. He has lived and worked in New Zealand, Scotland, Saudi Arabia and Canada, where he completed teaching and research fellowships.
He has published extensively, with a particular research interest in the chemotherapeutic treatment of Hodgkin disease, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and breast cancer. His credentials include:
- Fellowships: Cross Center Institute, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, 1980-1981
- FRACP: Fellow at the Royal Australian College of Physicians, 1978-1981
- Residency: Auckland Hospital Board, Auckland, New Zealand, 1974-1979
- Doctor of Medicine: University of Otago Medical School, New Zealand, 1974
