Colorectal Cancer

The experts at MacNeal Hospital offer comprehensive care for all aspects of colorectal health and for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. From preventive screening tests like colonoscopies to providing multidisciplinary care after diagnosis, the specialists at MacNeal are here to help you. We diagnose and treat the full spectrum of colorectal conditions, including colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer refers to cancer that starts in either the colon or the rectum. Many of these cancers start as a polyp, but most polyps are not cancerous. The best way to detect this type of cancer is through a colonoscopy, during which precancerous cells can be identified and often removed.

At MacNeal we offer some of the latest screening tests for colon cancer, including the fecal immunochemical test (FIT), which tests for hidden blood in the stool. The FIT screening can be done at home and your sample is sent to the lab. MacNeal also offers Cologuard® screenings, a noninvasive colon cancer screening test, available by prescription, which is used at home to test for cancer and precancer.

We can provide you with a personalized care plan should you be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, including access to clinical trials.
