What types of bariatric surgeries do you offer?
At MacNeal Hospital, our bariatric surgeons offer three bariatric surgery options:
- Adjustable gastric band
- Sleeve gastrectomy
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
Our bariatric surgeries are performed laparoscopically. Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive surgical approach performed through small incisions. Access ports are inserted through which operating instruments are used to perform the operation.
This surgical approach results in reduced pain, quicker recovery, improved appearance and a smaller chance of wound-related complications. All of our bariatric surgeries are performed this way, although there is always a small chance of having to make a larger incision.
Where do I go from here?
Losing weight can be a very difficult and frustrating process. If you think surgery may be a good option for you, our team is here to help!
1. Call your insurance provider to see if you have bariatric coverage. Every plan is different in both their coverage and their requirements. The process could take one to two months and the actual surgery date will vary, depending on your insurance plan requirements. Our team is here to answer any questions you may have and to help you through the process. For more information, call 877-834-7264.
2. Attend one of our free informational weight loss seminars where you can learn more about obesity, the different types of procedures and the risks and benefits of surgery. Your questions and concerns can also be addressed at this time.
3. Make an appointment with one of our surgeons where we will determine if weight loss surgery is right for you, and which procedure would best suit your needs. Next, undergo the necessary tests to make sure you are an eligible candidate.
4. Become emotionally prepared. Dramatic weight loss may significantly change your life. Prepare yourself emotionally for the transition by communicating with your family and friends about the procedure and how it will impact you and your loved ones. Support groups help address these concerns and are highly encouraged by our bariatric team.
