MacNeal Hospital is a 374-bed teaching hospital which is highly committed to graduate medical education. MacNeal Hospital sponsors successful residency programs in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Transitional Year. MacNeal is affiliated with Northwestern University and the University of Illinois. Residents from Northwestern University and the University of Illinois rotate at MacNeal Hospital in the disciplines of surgery, obstetrics, emergency medicine, and psychiatry. MacNeal’s 100 sponsored primary care residents and the specialty residents from Northwestern and the University contribute to the academic atmosphere which exists at MacNeal Hospital.
MacNeal is a patient-centered hospital with patient safety as the foundation of all care. MacNeal Hospital has been recognized by national organizations for the high-quality care it provides to its patients. In 2014, MacNeal was named one of the Top 100 hospitals in the United States. In 2014, 2015, and 2016, MacNeal was named one of the Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the United States. MacNeal is a Chest Pain Center, a Primary Stroke Center, a Cancer Center, and a Level II Trauma Center. MacNeal has also been recognized by national organizations for the exceptional care it provides in cardiology, neurology, and gastroenterology.
